Misty Croslin Gets 25 Years On Drug Charges, Haleigh Still Missing

One of my readers recently asked me about Haleigh Cummings, the five year-old who disappeared in 2009.

As of this posting, sweet little Haleigh has not been found.

At the time the child went missing, Misty Croslin was the girlfriend of Haleigh’s father. She has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for drug trafficking. She, her brother, Haleigh’s father, and two other people were caught last year for the illegal sale of oxycodone and hydrocodone.

“I am not a drug dealer,” Croslin said during Monday’s hearing.

Croslin was living with Ronald Cummings the night little Haleigh went missing. She is reportedly the last person to see the child alive.  Croslin said she put Haleigh and Haleigh’s brother to bed at about 8 p.m. that February night, and went to sleep about two hours later. Croslin says she woke up around 3 a.m. and found that Haleigh was gone and a cinder block had been propped at the back door to hold it open. Supposedly, an unknown intruder came and took Haleigh but conflicting stories and statements made by Misty and her family members, have pointed to the possibility that Misty knows much more than what she is telling, that her male cousins could have been involved in the child’s disappearance, and that Haleigh is deceased. CNN reports that, in a television interview, Croslin stated she does not know where Haleigh is, but that “the other side of the family” does.

Ronald Cummings was the one who reported Haleigh missing after he came home from work at dawn to find his daughter gone.

Even though physical evidence contradicts Misty Croslin’s statements about what happened that night, investigators have not officially called Misty a suspect. Haleigh’s father, Ronald Cummings, is serving 15 years for the illegal sale of prescription drugs.

Ronald was the only defendant in the drug trafficking arrest to get a plea deal. Part of his deal with prosecutors is to testify for the State in any future proceedings regarding his missing child.

It’s possible that Misty received 25 years and Ronald only got 15 years because authorities think Misty had more to do with the disappearance of Haleigh than her father did. No one knows for sure if Ronald knew anything about his daughter’s disappearance, or if Misty was there when the child was taken, or if she was present during a possible child homicide.

This case might remain unsolved for many years.

Wherever you are Haleigh, may you be with Angels guarding over you.

My opinions maybe a seem a little unjust to some people but I feel anyone who would be or suspected of having done something to or murdered a child their rights should be in question. Case in point the police department and the FBI fooled around with this case so long the little girl was forgotten about. They were dealing with a bunch of liers and didn’t know what to do. So they waited to get them on drug charges hoping someone would finially spill the beans. The partys in question should have been denied any contact sleep or any conforts at all untill the truth came out in the beginning period. Ron Cummins and Misty Cummins should have been hauled in to the police station and booked to start with. Even me as far away from Florida as I am and not even knowing them could tell by the way they acted on TV and from their interviews they knew something. Dealing drugs was their game. That means the childs life was shrouded in drugs, drug deals and shady people. Thirty years in prison and a fine is not enough ! Death is the answer to send a message to everyone in America if you abuse and or murder a child the only way out of it is death with out appeal. All death sentences should be carried out within a month of the verdict. After all who just who is defending the four year old child ? No one was there to protect her or defend her ! All they cared about was their next high ! Come on america wake up !

Hi Darrell. I understand your anger and being fed up with the system but we can’t rely on sleep deprivation to get the truth out of people, as it would always be questioned and challenged on appeal. We also can’t imprison on a hunch, or even on down right common sense, because there will always be that chance of imprisoning the innocent.

I feel it is worse to imprison an innocent person than to let the guilty go free.
