“Mental Health Professionals” Say Society Should Be More Accepting of Pedophiles

“The organization, which calls itself B4U-Act, is lobbying for changes to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or DSM, the guideline of standards on mental health that’s put together by the American Psychiatric Association.

The group says its mission is to help pedophiles before they create a crisis, and to do so by offering a less critical view of the disorder.”

Critical? Would we call it being “critical” to condemn someone for murdering a child?

“Stigmatizing and stereotyping minor-attracted people inflames the fears of minor-attracted people, mental health professionals and the public, without contributing to an understanding of minor-attracted people or the issue of child sexual abuse,” reads the organization’s website.”

Hmmm, sounds familiar. This group is using the term “fear” to label those who condemn child sexual abuse.

“B4U-Act said that 38 individuals attended a symposium in Baltimore last week, including researchers from Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University and the universities of Illinois and Louisville. According to the group, which said to not endorse every point of view expressed, the speakers in attendance concluded that “minor-attracted” individuals are largely misunderstood and should not be criminalized even as their actions should be discouraged.”

No, no, you shouldn’t have those kind of thoughts about children…but if you DO something to a child, it’s okay, we forgive you.

“Speakers also argued that people who are sexually attracted to children should have input into the decision about how pedophilia is defined in the DSM, which they said is supposed to be a guide to promote “mental health vs. social control.”

Scratching head…Okay, so let’s allow child rapists to define the meaning of being attracted to little kids. Then let’s put it in the DSM-IV so mental health professionals can teach themselves about pedophilia from those who are so psychologically screwed up, that they need to have sex with little kids.

“Critics of the conference say it was a thinly veiled attempt to make children of any age sexually accessible to adults.

“Absolutely,” Dr. Judith Reisman, a visiting professor of law at Liberty School of Law said. “Oh, they’re very clear about that. Their goal is to take all shame out of the lust for children.”

The American Psychiatric Association did not participate in the conference, and evidently does not condone the group’s message.

“An adult who engages in sexual activity with a child is performing a criminal and immoral act and this is never considered normal or socially acceptable behavior,” the APA wrote in a 2003 position statement.

Critics of the effort also note that the movement likens its fight for pedophilia acceptance to society’s more recent embrace of homosexuality. They warn of a slippery slope to a time when pedophilia is “just another lifestyle choice” that won’t warrant criminal charges—and will leave young children at risk.

Peter Sprigg, a senior fellow for policy studies at the Family Research Council, said, “I think that we have to face the fact that most of these people with pedophile attractions are going to come up against the law. The laws against sex abuse and the laws against child pornography. And those laws should be strictly enforced.”

  1. Pedophiles can not be cured. They can not act on their desires / obsessions, but they can not be cured.
Once they begin to act and molest even 1 child they do not stop.

I have read articles by mental health professionals that say serial killers are ‘reformed’ or cured. They are always wrong.

They haven’t encouraged anything. Many people go and get therapy to help them with their attraction to kids. I believe that we get our statistics from polls, not crimes. Once again, not are child molesters are pedophiles and not all pedophiles are child molesters.

    • little nel says:

How big was the sample that was “polled” that you got your statistics from?

You sound like a politician, not an expert.

I have studied the research and read case history after case history. We do not “poll” pedophiles, we poll voters.

“Once again, not are child molesters are pedophiles and not all pedophiles are child molesters.”

      Yes, but what’s your point?

any person who has sick thoughts or abuse children should be locked up

    • little nel says:

Go, Pamela! The sick thoughts come before an act of child abuse which is bad news.

The good news is that we can prosecute pedophiles when we have evidence and a victim.

What doesn’t the mental health profession understand about that notion?

Do they want legalized prostitution for 8 and 9 year old children like in the Netherlands? I read that the “parents” or family members can pimp out their children without fear of legal consequences to support their caretakers addictions. That way, addicts and children can be self supporting without government aid and it keeps a lot of pedophiles out of the criminal system.

I saw this attitude coming years ago from the “mental health “professionals.” A group that also includes social workers.

There are pedophile members who want to be able to have sex with children without repercussions. A “Warren Jeffs” approach in that it’s of spiritual benefit first, then mental and physical. It’s a Freudian concept also.

I have seen lots of “mental health professionals” in California who engage in sexual relationships with adults and their minor children, who are patients, at the same time. When they are caught they loose their license, but they just move to another state and begin again.

Now, the “cultural” aspect is commonly used as a defense to avoid the usual consequences, when they are reported or in danger of being reported.

I have seen adults who have sex with foreign exchange students, who are minors, avoid mandatory reporting because it’s not uncommon in the students’ natural country.

So it’s already acceptable in some cases.

  5. Ashley W says:

Pedophilia is not synonymous with child molester. Pedophilia is just the attraction to children, and you can’t punish thoughts. Now, I have no idea about why they felt the need to make this change, but they aren’t advocating child abuse by slightly changing the wording of a medical disorder.

    • Alethea says:

I’m sorry Ashley, were we not reading the same article? It says the group’s mission is to offer a less critical view of pedophilia.

If we don’t criticize the thought of an adult wanting to have sex with a child, then what shall we do with their attraction? Celebrate it? Normalize it?

“Stigmatizing and stereotyping minor-attracted people inflames the fears of minor-attracted people,…”

So what shall we do with people who want to have sex with kids? Shall we shrug our shoulders at them? Fall in love with them? Approve of them? Compliment them?

“…the speakers in attendance concluded that “minor-attracted” individuals are largely misunderstood and should not be criminalized even as their actions should be discouraged.”

Their actions should be “discouraged?” WTF?

    • littl nel says:

Ashley, how to do know who is a pedophile and who is not?

They get caught molesting children, then we have “proof” that they are pedophiles.

Pedophiles can be very creative and covert when it comes to “seducing” children. They almost always make the child think that they are at fault or “consented” to the sexual abuse.
