Documentary Calls Powell Murders, “A Family Tragedy”

It wasn’t a “family tragedy.” They didn’t all die together in a car accident. This was a a tragedy for two children and one mother. Josh Powell does not deserve to be considered a part of that family. He was a sexually deviant monster who murdered his wife, and tortured and murdered her two little boys….and he was probably molesting them as well.

“Psychologist reveals new details about Josh Powell~ Report May 28, 2012

A new documentary on E! Network called “A Family Tragedy: The Powells”, features the first interviews with the psychologist who worked with Josh Powell. It paints an even darker picture of Powell, who died earlier this year when he set his house on fire after killing both his young sons.
Forensic psychologist Dr. James Manley, who works for the state of Washington, says in the documentary that investigators found computer-generated videos and photos that show adults having sex with children.
“And there was [sic] about fifteen images that I found the most disturbing – and they were very lifelike – computerized drawings of adults and children having sex in various ways,” Dr. Manley tells Laura Ling in the documentary. The images prompted Dr. Manley to recommend a psycho- sexual evaluation. He says the pornography wasn’t a good sign for a parenting situation….
Relatives were also fighting to keep custody of Powell’s two kids, fearing that Powell had been involved in the high-profile disappearance of his wife, Susan Cox Powell. It is unclear whether or not they were aware of the pornography. The documentary aired for the first time on “E! Investigates” May 29 2012.”

Me too! Look at Drew Peterson and well whoever else, I think that there is a fine line between the cops and the criminals.

  2. Shana Dines says:

I know that we will probably never know exactly what happened to poor Susan, but I agree with you that there was something horribly ominous and evil that those two did together. I am sure that Josh’s twisted father had a really evil hold on Josh due to the sexual abuse that he perpetrated on him. Definitely not any innocence on Josh’s part. But I bet the twisted old man really had a hand in twisting Josh.

    “the images prompted Dr. Manley…etc.”

Why didn’t those images prompt law enforcement to arrest Josh and charge him?

    • Alethea says:

Little Nel, I wonder how many members of law enforcement are child sexual abusers themselves.

      • little nel says:

        Hi Alethea,

I would think that the same percentage of child sexual abusers that exists in the world would be proportionate in the law enforcement profession, right off the top of my head.

        • Alethea says:

I don’t know Little Nel. I think it might be higher. I read that 45% of police officers are accused of domestic violence. That included spousal abuse as well, but police officers are often more angry, controlling people. I think a lot of them become officers to be in power and control because they were once abused as a kids.

  4. Shana Dines says:

Me too. I wouldn’t be surprised if the father made his sexually abused son share Susan. He was so sick and twisted he probably did and then had to help cover it up, in his own sick mind. The evil that sexual abuse causes is beyond normal human understanding. I hope someday the truth comes out. I wonder why they can’t use sodium penithol to get the truth out of people? Do you know anything about that and how it works? I know it wouldn’t be legal but just wondering?

    • Alethea says:

Hi Shana. I agree that the evil caused by child sexual abuse can be severe. “Beyond normal human understanding” is such a great way of putting it. I am working on an article about that, but not about sexual abuse itself, but about the BETRAYAL. I think betrayal is a huge factor in what makes humans do evil things.

I know very little about sodium penithol, but my guess (based on what my therapist has told me about drugs and the mind) is that the drug would interfere with the truth. I know they call it “truth serum” but any chemical that messes with the human mind, is not reliable. My therapist won’t usually take clients who want to continue to be on any psychotropic drug during the therapy. She has told me that it interferes too much with the subconscious mind. All chemical drugs that are made for altering the mind will mess with the subconscious.

I don’t remember which talk show that I saw the father-in-law on either but I was struck by the insanity of not knowing just how perverse that he looked to normal people. My mother was that way, around many people. Her vile filthy jokes and talk was so blatant that she didn’t even realize how she sounded to more normal people. Once she was confronted she was even smart enough to know to hide most of it.
I have to wonder now if it was possible that the father-in-law was the one to murder her and Josh helped hide it. Worse yet maybe they were both involved, it wouldn’t be the first time that a father and son or adult and child did something like that. I hope that they both rot in hell. I hope that father-in-law has to rot a while here though. Josh definitely should be now after what he did, not the least of murdering those precious children and probably his wife.

    • Alethea says:

Hi Shana, I also think that both Josh and his father were involved in Susan’s death. Josh for certain.

    • little nel says:

      Hi Shana,

I think that Steven helped Josh. As sick and twisted as Steven is, he probably had Josh watch while he defiled Susan’s body for kicks. I can’t see a man like Steven Powell letting a perfectly good body that he was obsessed with, go to waste before hiding it permanently.

They are not the first father/son duo to do that sort of thing to a woman.

  6. Shana Dines says:

This is so absolutely horrible it is hard to come up with anything to say. I can’t imagine how the grandparents feel that had to turn those children over for the supervised visitation to have them slaughtered. Then there is the monstrous, twisted, sick, evil pedophile, sexual deviant father-in-law who was so obsessed with Susan Powell. He was so sick he didn’t even know how to hide his perversions. I am sure that he molested Josh Powell too, who was equally as sick. What a horrible horrible tragedy for Susan the children and her parents and family. There is no way that Josh should have had even supervised visitation, letting alone in his house. Makes me sick.

    • Alethea says:

“…..sexual deviant father-in-law who was so obsessed with Susan Powell. He was so sick he didn’t even know how to hide his perversions…..”

Shana! This is a great quote. ‘So sick he didn’t even know how to hide his perversions.’ That’s how I feel about Jerry Sandusky and others.

You are right though; I recently saw more of his depravity on The Nancy Grace Show. She provided more letters and tapes of Josh Powell’s father talking about Susan. He was twisted and sexually obsessed with Susan.

  7. little nel says:

Josh Powell had child porn on his mind and on his computer during the time that Susan Powell went missing.

That should have been enough to remove those boys from the home of Josh Powell and arrest him.

Josh Powell got all the protections so two little boys died violently at his hands.
